This program provides a series of hands-on learning and practice activities in six sessions to a selected group of Atkins employees with demonstrated leadership capability.
Project Management Training

The University offers self-study online courses for the CAPM, PMP, PMP-RP, PMP-SP, and Project Management for Non-Project Managers. In addition, webinar and classroom courses on topics specific to Atkins project management processes are offered as needed in alignment with the goal of increasing overall project management competency across Atkins North America. The CAPM courses, plus on-the-job coaching are recommended as the starting point to learn about project management.
Client Service Management

This program builds competence in managing the client relationship and becoming a trusted advisor. Attendance is by nomination based on job responsibilities, client contact, and Manager Essentials. Programs of 1/2 day or 1 day are offered in local offices as needed.

Manager Essentials
Harry “Butch” Neal, Sr. Group Manager, Water and Environment
This program serves to build skills in working with people, whether a designated supervisor, manager of projects or technical team lead. The program is the foundation for attending any of the flagship programs listed above. Topics are offered in a variety of formats including webinar, elearning self-study, and classroom sessions. Attendance requires manager approval . A minimum of 40 hours of training, including required and elective courses, is needed to earn the Manager Essentials Certificate.
Championing Diversity

This program aims to increase awareness of diversity and build champions for valuing differences across Atkins North America. The business case for diversity is substantial, due to both increasing diversity among employees and also increasing diversity in client and stakeholder groups with whom we work.
Business Systems Training (Vision, Oracle, Prodagio, Documentum)
The programs in this topic area target increasing knowledge and skill in using new business systems as we continually increase use of technology for consistency in our work practices and for effective sharing of data and information to manage the business in a highly competitive and increasingly regulated marketplace.
Public Speaking Skills / Presentation Skills
Various Atkins offices have established chapters of Toastmasters. These local office programs offer a structured way to successfully build speaking skills and confidence in communicating. For strategic pursuits, Atkins partners with Chicago consultant Mary Secker to develop strong, polished presentations that support proposals. Through Secker, Atkins also offers two-day presentation skills training for 10 participants in a local office, if participants are willing to attend on a Friday-Saturday schedule.
